Everhart / Eberhart

{Submitted by chapter member, Peter Everhart} – Sergeant Phillip Everhart was the son of Johannas Eberhart and Susanna Guhl. He was also the brother of Frederick and Bernard Eberhart of Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. Records show that all three owned land in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.

Descendants of Phillip Everhart – Phillip Everhart was born in 1755 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and died 20 Feb. 1809 in Salem Twp., Jefferson County, OH and is buried in the Old Annapolis Cemetery, on the hill {also known as the Heisler Cemetery}. He married Barbara Eckhart about 1790 in Pennsylvania, daughter of John Eckart and Christina Haeffer/Truckenmiller. She was born about 1700 in Pennsylvania and died in 1838 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio. The children of Phillip Everhart and Barbara Eckhart are:

  1. Elizabeth Everhart – born 1791 Washington Co., PA. She married James Shields 23 May 1826 in Harrison Co., OH; born about 1790.
  2. Sarah Everhart – born 1792 in Washington Co., PA; died 1870 in Fayette Co., IA. She married Jacob Tope 18 Feb. 1812 in Jefferson Co., OH; born 4 Mar. 1789 in PA; died 1858 in Fayette Co., IA.
  3. John Karr Everhart – born 20 Apr 1796 in Washington Co., PA; died 17 Mar 1885 in Tuscarawas Co., OH. He married Nancy K. Viers 21 Feb. 1818 in Tuscarawas Co., OH; born 5 Jan. 1800 in Jefferson Co., OH; died 25 Apr. 1880 in Salem, Tuscarawas Co., OH.
  4. Thomas McCoy Everhart – born 25 Mar. 1799 in Washington Co., PA; died 16 Jul. 1866 in Shelby Co., IL. He married (1) Mary Wheeler 13 Nov. 1817 in Tuscarawas Co., OH; born 8 Sep. 1802 in Tuscarawas Co., OH; died 10 Sep. 1840 in Tuscarawas Co., OH. He married (2) Priscilla Barnhouse 5 Jul. 1841 in Jefferson Co., OH; born 2 Dec 1808’ died 25 Dec. 1891 in Shelby Co., IL. (Note – Thomas & Margaret were twins)
  5. Margaret Everhart – born 25 Apr. 1799 in Washington Co., PA. She married Andrew Miller 22 Feb. 1818; born about 1797.
  6. Rachel Everhart – born 4 Feb. 1801 in Washington Co., PA; died 3 Jun. 1884 in Fulton Co., OH. She married James Viers 19 Jan. 1820 in Jefferson Co., OH; born about 1799; died 29 Mar. 1875.
  7. James Moody Everhart – born Feb. 1804 in Jefferson Co., OH; died1875 in Alvarado, IN. He married Harriet Koontz; born about 1805 in Ohio.
  8. Samuel Dunlap Everhart – born 2 Oct 1805 in Jefferson Co., OH; died 11 Dec. 1866 in Millersburg, OH. He married Sarah Noel 5 Aug. 1827 in Tuscarawas Co., OH; born 10 Jul. 1809 in Somerset Co., PA; died 7 Feb. 1870 in Millersburg, OH.
  9. Delilah Everhart – born Jan. 1808 in Jefferson Co., OH. She married Jacob Shepler 10 Jan. 1828 in Harrison Co., OH; born about 180

Note – The land records of Tuscarawas Co., OH 1840 Vol. 16, pg. 357 show that Thomas McCoy Everhart and his wife, Mary Wheeler donated land to the Methodist Episcopal Church. Here a church was erected. Thomas Everhart was a very devout Christian, who joined the Methodist Church in 1828. Thomas McCoy Everhart married his first wife 13 Nov. 1817 in Tuscarawas Co., OH. They had 14 children. Mary Everhart died 10 Sep. 1840. He then married Priscilla Barnhouse on 5 Jul. 1841. They had 5 children. Their son, Marion Washington Everhart became a Methodist Minister and had many pastorates in the Illinois District over a 50-year period.
