Have you ever heard of the Sanborn Maps?

Beginning in 1867, the Sanborn Map Company produced over 660,000 large maps of more than 12,000 American towns and cities. The company was the primary American publisher of fire insurance maps for over a century and these maps have become essential genealogical resources in locating the residences of some of our ancestors. Some large libraries with significant special collections may have Sanborn maps of their area in their holdings. Bell and Howell has digitized the Sanborn maps and makes the images available through queries at their Web site-

http://sanborn.umi.com/ to institutions and individuals through a subscription. You can learn about the Sanborn maps at their web site.

Just type a place name in the search box, pick the state or province, and go! Use the "View Maps" menu for more search options.

The New York Times' Immigration Explorer

A new interactive mapping service shows historic immigration patterns in the United States. You can see where different ethnic groups settled. The interactive map is an excellent use of aggregate data from U.S. Census and geographic information systems.

You can see the map at: www.nytimes.com/interactive/2009/03/10/us/20090310-immigration-explorer.html?hp.

The U.S. Geological Survey hosts the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) database on its website and it can be a great tool for identifying cemeteries in an area. You can enter a state and county and then select cemeteries from the “Feature Class” field and query the database to see a list of cemeteries.

Ninety-three cemeteries are listed for Jefferson County, Ohio. I don't know if the following link will work, but this is the specific list of the 93:
