March 11, 2008 (Tuesday) – The Chapter business meeting will begin at 6:30 P.M. followed by guest speaker, Timothy G. Anderson, Associate Professor and Chair, Department of Geography at Ohio University. He will speak on the Early Settlement of Ohio, focusing on the Ohio Valley Region. Refreshments served. June 10, 2008 (Tuesday) – The business meeting will begin at 6:30 followed by chapter president, Flora L. VerStraten on the topic of, "Sources for Locating Your Veteran Ancestors from the Revolutionary War to WWII. September 13, 2008 (Saturday) – FAMILY HISTORY WORKSHOPS on topics from Family History 101 to topics on various historical subjects. Tour of the local Schiappa Library, Ohio Research Room with handout of sources and much more! Learn from the local experts about early Jefferson County history and timelines. The workshops will be held at the Schiappa Library from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Check back here to register! October - TAG DAY FUND RAISER AT WAL MART CHECK BACK FOR DATE AND SIGN UP TO HELP! October 11, 2008 (Saturday) - Pioneer Cemeteries Tour. Check here for registration information and fee. Fee will include a van, picnic style lunch at a pioneer cemetery, lawn chairs, and blankets. The tour will take you to some of the oldest pioneer cemeteries in Jefferson County and will include various histories of the cemetery/church and the pioneers that lived nearby. Registration & fee information here details TBA. December 13, 2008 (Saturday) – Chapter Christmas Luncheon. A historical location will be selected to hold our annual chapter Christmas Luncheon Banquet. Chapter member and guest speaker, Jeff Evans II will share "Christmas in Jefferson County During the Civil War Period." Period dress is optional. We will recognize outstanding community service and local government leaders, as well as new Civil War Society inductees. Luncheons reservations will be required in advance. Details TBA here. Field Trips and other local activities and projects will be announced throughout the year in newsletters, the chapter web site, local media sources, and our chapter email list.
