Calendar for 2010

MARCH 30 (Tues.) Annual Cemetery Meeting at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Powell's Ln., Wintersville, OH 43953. Members, public and community are invited to attend.

JUNE 8
(Tues.) OPEN HOUSE from 6 – 9 P.M. We will conduct a tour of our archive as well as a tour which will include a “Show and Tell” of some of our materials that will be accessible to researchers. Refreshments will be served on the lawn (weather permitting) from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. Local historian, Virginia Glenn will attend and sign books from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. She reprinted Doc Schillings books, titled Tales and Stories of Yellow Creek. Beginning at 7:00 P.M. Flora will give a presentation, a tour, and a review of the various records housed at the archive.  This will be our first meeting at our new headquarters at 100 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio. OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!

SEPTEMBER 14 (Tues.)
This meeting will be held at our archive at 6:30 P.M. A presentation will follow at 7:00 P.M. given by chapter board members, Gail Komar, Tammy Hosenfeld and Flora L. VerStraten. The topic for the presentation is "Researching Land and Deed Records."

NOVEMBER 9 (Tues.)
This meeting will be held at our archive at 6:30 P.M. beginning with the chapter business meeting, followed by our guest speaker at 7:00 P.M.  Guest, Jon-Erik Gilot will honor us with a presentation titled, "Learn how to preserve and archive your collection." Jon-Erik will discuss ways to preserve and store and care for our various old records and personal belongings. He is an expert in the field and will share extensive handouts with the group.

Jon-Erik Gilot
A graduate of a Bethany College where he studied History and International Relations, Jon-Erik has worked hands on with numerous archives and historical societies in cataloging and preserving their collections. Most recently Jon-Erik completed a lengthy project entailing the transcription, rehousing and preservation of several collections at the Mount Pleasant Ohio History Society. He is currently a docent at the Andrew Carnegie Free Library in Carnegie, Pennsylvania where he works to interpret the history of the library and community.

Jon-Erik came to Preservation Technologies in 2006 in their office at the Library of Congress. He is currently finishing an MLIS degree from Kent State University with a concentration in archival studies. At Preservation Technologies Jon-Erik works with colleges, historical societies and cultural institutions in developing preservation program strategies for their archival collections.

DECEMBER 4
(Sat.) Annual Christmas Luncheon at Zalenski’s Restaurant, 547 Cadiz Rd., Wintersville, Ohio 43953.  Reservations are required. Check website for more details. Come join us! This is our best attended meeting with a short program of some type, a time to visit and share and relax and enjoy the holiday! Contact Tammy Hosenfeld at wellspringcpc@verizon.net or 740-546-3786


Watch for other announced field trips and/or projects. Volunteers are needed to assist with the courthouse project and inventory and digitizing records project. Please contact Flora L. VerStraten if you would like to volunteer at fverstraten@dishmail.net
