Wheeler Cemetery - Bill Cermak, (Smithfield Township Trustee) along with his wife and a few boy scouts have been actively cleaning up Wheeler Cemetery since 2003. They completed the removal of large bush and dead trees in the fall of 2004. Bill contacted me in Oct. and stated that the cemetery is completely cleared of brush, weeds and debris piles. We will begin probing and reading tombstone inscriptions in the early spring. The first time we probed we found a large ornate tombstones dating back to the early 1820's. We are looking forward to probing, reading tombstones, and restoring this very old pioneer cemetery. Mr. "Applejack" Welday (a direct descendants of the Wheeler and Welday families) who is over 90 years old, walked down the hill to the cemetery when we were probing back in the spring of 2006. We met Ann Grayzar, and a few of Ann's relatives, along with John Borkowski. Plans to continue work at this location are slated. (Report given by Flora L. VerStraten)
