1.Thanks so much for working on the site. I know I will use new info you post as I have over a dozen ancestors who were first families/pioneers in Jefferson County. You and the volunteers in Jefferson County are to be commended for helping those of us who live many miles away. Have a great day!

-Kathryn

5. Dear Flora, I'm sure that you don't remember me since you meet so many people at meetings and genealogical events, but I wanted to send my thanks and appreciation to you for the wonderful effort you have made on behalf of Jefferson County archives and cemetery preservation programs. My husband's ancestors were the Swickards, Reeds, Flemings, and Brooks families and his Mother was born in Toronto. We have visited Toronto and Steubenville many times for Mom's high school reunions and genealogy trips and have always received a warm and gracious welcome at the library and at the genealogy society meetings that you held. I often brag about you and the progress that you and your generous volunteers have made in preserving local historical information and restoring cemeteries. When I talk to my husband's relatives and meet people at other society meetings I offer you and your chapter as models of efficiency and dedication. You are a wonderful example to other chapter officers as a leader and volunteer. Your enthusiasm and high level of commitment to the preservation of pioneer records and historical sites is a blessing to the residents and researchers in Jefferson County. I always look forward to reading your newsletters and email messages to see what new project you and the chapter volunteers are planning. Although I live two hours away, I have made several trips to your meetings for your excellent presentations. I wholeheartedly agree with the decision to change the meeting schedule. I belong to many genealogy societies and their newsletters also reveal a significant drop in attendance at monthly meetings and a desperate need for volunteers. I sincerely appreciate your hard work throughout the years and look forward to seeing you on our next trip to Steubenville.

-Jane

17. Ms. VerStraten,

I am a new member of the JCC, and I must tell you how impressed I am with your web site.  You have so much to offer:  links, suggestions, query opportunities, projects to get involved with, etc.  Really thorough.  The cemetery project you are putting together is wonderful.  It gives people a chance to help firsthand, developing an appreciation for what individuals can do to directly impact history as well as future generations.

Though I live in Licking county (largely because I taught there and in Highland county for 30 years), I was born in Dover, Ohio (Harrison Co.), and I have ties to Jeff Co. through my the Misers on my mother's side.  So, of course, I was interested in the recent article about Rev. Meiser who descends from some common ancestors of mine.  My grandmother Lillie Miser married Robert Dempsey Wallace, another Jeff Co. native.

I have ordered your newsletter CD and am excited about upcoming explorations.

Anyway, I will definitely visit the historial  society, museum, and genealogy room this summer.  Perhaps I'll send a 5-generation chart out to your society one of these days, as well.

Thanks to you.  Looks like you have devoted yourself to Jefferson County's history and I, for one, appreciate it.

-Kris McGinnis Myers
