Scamahorn Private Cemetery

Warren Township
Jefferson County, Ohio

A pioneer cemetery in  Warren Twp. is the Scamahorn Private Cemetery, owned by Mr. Robert Posgai.  This cemetery is well taken care of by the Posgai Family. A bronze military marker was ordered  for Jacob Martin (1742 – 1830), who was a Revolutionary War Captain proven to be buried in this cemetery.  The owners will or have done the installation of that marker. It is also said  Jacob Martin was the first judge of the first court in Jefferson County in 1795. Jacob Martin’s family consists of most burials there and only a couple of the Scamahorn family.  Legend says that Jacob Martin’s son Dunham Martin (1769 – 1827) had seven wives. Our chapter has only located data on three of his wives. They are  buried next to him in the cemetery.
