Access to Ohio Adoptions

Searching on Goggle under "Ohio Revised Code" (make sure to use quotation marks) Part 3107, adoption ORC 3107.38, I found references to adoptions prior to January 1, 1964. (Go to search engine to learn more.)

  • "Adoption file" means the file maintained by the Department of Health under section 3705.12 – Revised code. An adopted person who’s birth occurred in this state and whose adoption was decreed prior to January 1, 1964 may do either or both of the following:
  1. Submit a written request to the Department of Health to provide adopted person with a copy of contents of adopted person’s adoption file.
  2. File a petition for release of information regarding adopted person’s name by birth and identify adopted person’s biological parents and sibling(s).
