Obituary for Mrs. Elizabeth Fisher Broady

Lady Over  99 Dies- Mrs. Elizabeth Broady would have been centenarian in 1922-Remains brought to former home

      (Steubenville Herald wkly., Oct 20, 1921 pg. 3) Mrs. Elizabeth Fisher, Broady, Steubenvilles’ oldest resident, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. David Carmen, Fostoria, O., on Tuesday evening, October 11, at the age of 99 years and 6 months.

     Mrs. Broady was born in this city on April 22, 1822, and was the daughter of Michael Thomas and Christina Fisher. Mrs. Fisher, her mother, also had the distinction of being the oldest resident of Steubenville, she being 104 years of age when she passed here in 1899.  The family first settled in this city if 1812. 

     Mr. Fisher was a potter by trade and was the founder of the ??? Pottery operated in the state of Ohio.  The father died when but a young man and left the widowed mother with eight small children, of which Mrs. Judith Dray, aged 92, of Putnam county is the only survivor.  Mrs. Broady’s grandfather, William Ryder, was a soldier in the American army during the Revolutionary War and fought in several battles under the direct command of George Washington.
 
      Mrs. Broady was married to Wm. Broady about 75 years ago. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs David Carmen, and 10 grandchildren.  Mrs Broady spent her entire life in the limits of Steubenville with the exception of the last 10 years…She was a devout member of the old Presbyterian Church and later became affiliated with the Westminster church when it was founded.  The body is at Coe’s funeral home, having been brought here this morning.
